Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 13, 2026
This policy applies to the iOS app PurrBark: Cat & Dog Translator (bundle ID com.appbusinessventures.purrbark), published by App Business Ventures LLC (“we”, “us”).
In short:
- Your recordings never leave your iPhone. PurrBark recognizes pet sounds and your words on the device.
- To write a caption, PurrBark sends our server the type of sound it heard, the mood guess, and your pet's name, breed, age and personality. Our own AI model writes the caption. We don't keep these details after answering.
- Your pets, photos and translations are stored on your iPhone, not on our servers.
- PurrBark has no accounts and no ads, never sells your data, and doesn't ask to track you.
Recordings and speech
When you record your pet, PurrBark uses Apple's sound recognition on your iPhone to check whether it hears a cat or dog sound, and measures simple features such as length, loudness and pitch. In Talk to Pet mode, PurrBark uses Apple's speech recognition to turn what you said into text, on your iPhone whenever the device supports it (on some older devices Apple may process the speech on its servers under Apple's own privacy policy). The recordings and the text stay on your iPhone.
Captions
To write the playful caption, PurrBark sends our server at purrbark.appholdings.org, over an encrypted connection: the sound type (for example “meow”), the mood guess, rough sound features (number of sounds, loud or quiet, pitch going up or down), the time of day, your pet's name, breed, age and chosen personality traits, and the last few captions it showed you (so it doesn't repeat itself). The caption is written by an AI model that runs on our own computers; no outside AI company receives these details. We keep the finished caption in our server's memory for up to 24 hours so the same recording gives the same answer, and we don't store the request.
If our server can't be reached, PurrBark writes the caption on your iPhone, with Apple's on-device model on supported devices or with its built-in caption library.
To keep the service fair we count caption requests per day per device and per network address. The device count uses a one-way hash of Apple's app-specific device identifier (identifier for vendor); counts are kept in memory and reset every day.
Your pets and translations
Pet profiles, pet photos, recordings and your translation history are stored in PurrBark's storage on your iPhone. They are included in your iPhone backups according to your own backup settings. Deleting a translation, a pet, or the app removes them from your device. When you share a card or video, iOS hands it to the app you choose.
Microphone, speech recognition and photos
PurrBark uses the microphone only while you record, speech recognition only in Talk to Pet mode, and the photo picker only for the pet photo you choose. It asks for permission to add to your photo library only when you save a card or video.
Purchases
PurrBark Pro is sold and billed by Apple; we never see your payment details. Apple gives the app signed transaction information (product, purchase and expiry dates, transaction IDs), which we use to unlock Pro and to measure sales, and sends us App Store Server Notifications about renewals, cancellations and refunds. If you start a free trial and allow notifications, PurrBark reminds you the day before the trial ends with a local notification.
Analytics
PurrBark uses ACAnalytics, our own analytics service, to understand how the app is used and which of our Apple Search Ads lead to installs and subscriptions. It collects:
- an app-scoped device identifier (identifier for vendor) and an install identifier;
- app version, iOS version, device model, and the language, region and currency settings of your device;
- the IP address your device connects from, and the approximate location (country, region, city and postal code) that our hosting provider, Cloudflare, derives from it;
- in-app events, such as finishing onboarding, finishing a translation, playing a sound, sharing, or viewing the subscription screen, with categories and counts only (never your recordings, captions, words or pet names);
- App Store transaction and product IDs of your purchases, and Apple's App Store receipt;
- an Apple Search Ads attribution token, which tells us which Search Ads campaign, if any, led to the install.
PurrBark doesn't use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and doesn't track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Sharing
We don't sell personal information. We share data only with service providers that process it for us (Cloudflare for analytics hosting), with Apple for purchases, or when the law requires it.
Children
PurrBark is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Your choices and rights
You can turn off microphone, speech recognition, photo and notification access for PurrBark in iOS Settings, and delete translations, pets or the whole app at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, or to object to its processing. Because PurrBark has no accounts, email us at feedback@appholdings.org (or from the app: Settings › Contact support) so we can find your data, and we will respond within 30 days.
Security and international transfers
Data sent to our services travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app when the change is significant.
